False Prophet Joseph Smith On Hell

“…our petitions were treated with contempt; and in many cases the petitioner spurned from their presence and particularly by Joseph, who would state that if he had sinned, and was guilty of the charges we would charge him with, he would not make acknowledgment, but would rather be damned; for it would detract from his dignity, and would consequently ruin and prove the overthrow of the Church. We would ask him on the other hand, if the overthrow of the Church was not inevitable, to which he often replied, that we would all go to Hell together, and convert it into a heaven, by casting the Devil out; and says he, Hell is by no means the place this world of fools suppose it to be, but on the contrary, it is quite an agreeable place…” (Nauvoo Expositor, 1-2)

“I see no faults in the Church, and therefore let me be resurrected with the Saints, whether I ascend to heaven or descend to hell, or go to any other place. And if we go to hell, we will turn the devils out of doors and make a heaven of it. Where this people are, there is good society.” (History of the Church, 5:516–17; from a discourse given by Joseph Smith on July 23, 1843, in Nauvoo, Illinois; reported by Willard Richards)

But what does scripture say? We learn about the fate of those who serve the Beast or Antichrist in Revelation 14:9-11, “If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.”

And Revelation 20:10 debunks Annihilationism; “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

  1. First, the Nauvoo Expositor is hardly a credible source as the authors were known enemies of Joseph Smith. So, unless you can verify their claims it is meaningless.

As to the history of the church quote, what is so wrong with that. People take things far to seriously, and if you think that a prophet of God cannot call on the power of God to kick the devil out of any given location, I have to wonder what other limits you place on God.

    1. I wouldn’t doubt Joseph Smith said it. That false prophet was full of pride.

You should repent and get out of your cult and turn to the real Jesus Christ of the bible who is NOT the spirit brother of Lucifer as Mormonism teaches. Your Mormon Jesus can’t save you.

      1. You wouldn’t doubt it because believing it serves your own desire to see him as a false prophet. Thus you accept anything that would support this view, regardless of its veracity or credibility.

But, if you are interested, this is what we know Joseph Smith said regarding the torments of Hell.

“God has decreed that all who will not obey His voice shall
not escape the damnation of hell. What is the damnation of hell?
To go with that society who have not obeyed His commands. . . .
I know that all men will be damned if they do not come in the
way which He hath opened, and this is the way marked out by
        the word of the Lord.”
“The great misery of departed spirits in the world of spirits,
where they go after death, is to know that they come short of the
glory that others enjoy and that they might have enjoyed them-
selves, and they are their own accusers.”
“There is no pain so awful as that of suspense. This is the pun-
ishment of the wicked; their doubt, anxiety and suspense cause
weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
“A man is his own tormentor and his own condemner. Hence
the saying, They shall go into the lake that burns with fire and
brimstone [see Revelation 21:8]. The torment of disappointment
in the mind of man is as exquisite as a lake burning with fire and
brimstone. I say, so is the torment of man. . . .
“. . . Some shall rise to the everlasting burnings of God, for
God dwells in everlasting burnings, and some shall rise to the
damnation of their own filthiness, which is as exquisite a tor-
ment as the lake of fire and brimstone.”

All quotes from the History of the Church, quoted in “Teachings of the Presidents of the Church-Joseph Smith
        page 24.

        1. By biblical criteria he was a false prophet: “But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 “And you may say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 “When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.” (Deut. 18:20-22).

Yet…. “Prophecy about Jesus’ return within 56 years–“President Smith then stated that the meeting had been called, because God had commanded it; and it was made known to him by vision and by the Holy Spirit. He then gave a relation of some of the circumstances attending us while journeying to Zion–our trials, sufferings; and said God had not designed all this for nothing, but He had it in remembrance yet; and it was the will of God that those who went to Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, for the coming of the Lord, which was nigh–even fifty-six years should wind up the scene.” (History of the Church, vol. 2, p. 189).

And…. Prophecy that the temple would be built in Missouri within Smith’s Generation–“Yea, the word of the Lord concerning his church, established in the last days for the restoration of his people, as he has spoken by the mouth of his prophets, and for the gathering of his saints to stand upon Mount Zion,i which shall be the city of New Jerusalem. 3 Which city shall be built, beginning at the temple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased. 4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation. 5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house . . . 31 Therefore, as I said concerning the sons of Moses for the sons of Moses and also the sons of Aaron shall offer an acceptable offering and sacrifice in the house of the Lord, which house shall be built unto the Lord in this generation, upon the consecrated spot as I have appointed.” (Doctrines and Covenants 84:2-5,31.)

And…. All Nations would be involved in the American Civil War–“Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; 2 And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place. 3 For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations,” (Doctrine and Covenants 87:1-3)

If I were you I would get out of the false Mormon religion as soon as possible. It’s a con from the devil and he’s having you waste your life believing in it.

If you ever decide to repent and turn to the real Jesus Christ of Nazareth of the Bible and get saved, hit me up. I’ll pray for you and expel any demons, in the mighty name of Jesus, you probably picked up for being in a Christian cult.

  2. Yeah, I have heard it all before. Just because the uninspired fail to understand prophecy does not make it false. All these prophecies were fulfilled, and you would know that if you actually paid attention to what they were saying rather than regurgitating the false understanding that those of no understanding try to pass off as truth.

God’s true church is restored, and those who continue to follow the corrupt organizations and philosophies of man will be sorely disappointed when Christ returns. Come to Him before it is too late.

  3. I couldn’t agree more, which is why you should stop following men, or the organizations they have created; but you should turn to God and follow His prophets to salvation.
Why would you want to remain in the darkness created by Satan and foolish men, when the glorious light of the gospel is once again restored and prophets once again walk the earth.
