“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:… hands that shed innocent blood,….” – Proverbs 6:17
I know this is such a morbid topic but I think it is significant for people to know that voices in one’s head telling a person to kill or commit some other kind of harm others is fundamentally a spiritual issue (I also addressed this issue here). Quite simply, the source of the voices are demons, most likely indwelt in the person. The person who has such an issue needs the Lord Jesus Christ for deliverance.
Being active in deliverance ministry, I have come across many people who were plagued with constant thoughts of murder or heard internal voices telling them to commit murder. Sure enough, they were determined to be demonized. How did I know for certain? Because when I came against the voices by the authority of Jesus Christ the demons inside the person manifested. But sadly, many people can’t discern the voices in their head telling them to commit such an atrocious act is of the enemy.
Not all murderers hear voices but there is no doubt the devil is there working in the hearts of men and women, even subtly, like he did with Judas Iscariot. Who do you think was behind Cain murdering his brother Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve? It was unquestionably the devil. The Bible reads the devil was a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44). It is hard to wrap one’s mind around why some people commit senseless acts of violence towards others unless one comes to the realization with the fact this whole world lies under the wicked one (1 John 5:19). The enemy is like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8) and he can use many people to carry out his agenda.
Today, satan’s kingdom is still very active in influencing people to commit murder. There are many news reports of people who committed atrocities who have claimed voices compelled the person to do it. I seriously doubt the perpetrators lied when they made the claim voices told them to do it. Hearing voices is surprisingly not so uncommon. It is estimated that 5% to 28% of the general population hear voices [source].
Recently, I made a post addressing the Florida school shooter, Nikolas Cruz, who heard voices telling him to commit his horrible crimes to expose and emphasize such voices are from real demonic entities. Recently there was a mass shooting (yes, another one!) in Dayton, Ohio, where 9 people’s lives were lost, including the perpetrator’s little sister. The perpetrator, who made a tweet with hashtags honoring satan and made scrawlings in his notebook with a pentagram and the words ‘Hail Lucifer,’ also said he heard voices.
A snippet of the news report reads:
The Ohio madman who slaughtered nine people and wounded at least two dozen others in Dayton’s nightlife district had heard menacing voices in his head since he was young, and talked about “dark, evil things,” his ex-girlfriend said.
Connor Betts, 24, was a serious and reserved kid who struggled with hallucinations, Lyndsi Doll, who dated Betts seven years ago, told the Washington Post Monday.
During their high school years, Betts had told Doll he’d long suffered from psychosis and feared developing schizophrenia.
“He would cry to me sometimes,” Doll recalled, “saying how he’s afraid of himself and afraid he was going to hurt someone one day. It’s haunting now.”
Doll told Today voices in his head were telling him to hurt others.
Other symptoms of his demonization:
“He told me again it was because of his hallucinations, things that he heard whispered to him at night from disembodied voices,” she said. “He feared himself, and some nights it was hard for him to sleep.”
Many times, people hear these voices because they have opened the “doors” to the enemy by practicing sin. The Bible warns not to give the devil a foothold in one’s life (Ephesians 4:27). Of course, one doesn’t have to yield to the promptings of the demonic voices. God gives us the free will choice to act on it or not.
The following are about 14 recent news reports of murderers or potential murderers who claimed they heard voices. The following are snippets [emphasis mine], and please note the following can be very disturbing:
An Irving mother who believed “demons told her to sacrifice her son” has been arrested and faces a charge of capital murder in the death of her 8-year-old child.
As one of the most violent serial killers in recent history, Ted Bundy is rightfully infamous: He commited a multitude of crimes that a judge would later describe as “extremely wicked, shockingly evil, and vile.”
He’s responsible for the violent deaths of more than 30 people, but were there other forces at play that drove him to commit his crimes? That seems to be what he believed, at least in part. Before his execution in 1989, Bundy often referred to an “entity” or “malignant being” as the driving force behind his kills — a literal voice in his head that compelled him to commit violent acts and whose will he could not deny. So what is the story behind this “entity?”
The so-called Tinder Killer says that he didn’t want to hurt anyone. From his current residence in a Los Angeles jail, Danueal Drayton says that ‘voices’ compelled him to murder. He stands accused of killing Queens nurse Samantha Stewart, raping another woman in Los Angeles and choking his ex-girlfriend.
Police say that he has no history of mental illness but Drayton told The New York Daily News he was both schizophrenic and bipolar.
From The New York Daily News:
“I really liked her. I didn’t want to kill her,” he told The News from behind a glass partition at the Twin Towers men’s jail in Los Angeles. “They told me she had to die.”
“I’m a passenger in my own body,” Drayton repeated, over and over, referring to the voices that he claims drive his evil actions.
A Florida man claimed “voices” encouraged him to kill his daughter in order to save “everbody in the world.” The man allegedly tossed the 5-year-old girl off a bridge leading to her death in January 2015, according to court records.
John Jonchuck, 29, spoke about killing his daughter Phoebe with psychiatrist Emily Lazarou during two evaluations in October 2017 and May 2018. During those evaluations, Jonchuck claimed that “voices” had urged him to kill his young daughter.
“I was hearing voices saying that if me and Phoebe didn´t die, everybody was going to go to hell,” Jonchuck told Lazarou, according to new court records.
A man who called and admitted to Scottsdale police that he murdered his wife with a hammer told officers he did so because “voices in his head told him to,” court documents say.
Scottsdale police responded to the home at 77th Street and Balao Drive in northern Scottsdale Friday and detained 72-year-old Jozef Miller after he called 911 and said he killed his wife, 73-year-old Hanna Miller.
Arrest documents say Miller called police and then told responding officers the only person in the house was his wife and that she lay dead in the kitchen. Officers searched the home where they found a deceased woman with significant trauma on the back of her head.
Miller was taken to Scottsdale City Jail where he told investigators he has schizophrenia and voices in his head had told him to kill his wife multiple times before but didn’t act on them, according to court documents.
A man arrested in August for allegedly attempting to sexually assault four women in two days said he heard voices that told him to “rape.”
A Taylor County grand jury Thursday indicted Joshua Joseph Day, 38, on four felony charges of attempted sexual assault and one felony of injury to a disabled individual. According to Taylor County Jail records, he also faces a Class B theft charge.
A 40-year-old woman with a history of mental illness was yesterday charged with manslaughter in the death of her one-year-old daughter.
Prosecutors allege that Phillipa Arnette-Marshall, of Kemp Road, unlawfully caused the death of Philicia Marshall on February 14, 2018. Prosecutors allege that the woman doused her child with gasoline and set her afire at her Faith Gardens home after hearing voices on December 28, 2017.
The child remained in hospital until her death on February 14.
Mental illness or brain injury? Driven by voices to commit crime, Titus Young is in prison but still believes he could play in the NFL
“I have made so many mistakes I have become a little ashamed of being Titus Young,” he scribbled in fast-paced printing. “A lot of the stuff I have done was out of my control during the time. … I was hearing voices.
“Hearing voices is no joke, it’s actually very scary. I feel like someone is trying to come kill me.”
The murderer in the following case claims it was his father’s voice that told him to commit the atrocious act. Demons are deceivers. Demons can masquerade as anyone.
In a videotaped confession presented as evidence to the court, Zachary Davis chillingly explained how the disembodied voice of his father told him to kill his mother. When asked by a detective in his confession if he could go back in time, would he still carry out the attack, Zach said that “I would probably kill Josh with a sledgehammer too.”
Defense attorney Randy Lucas, asked during the trial, “Did he tell you to do anything specific to your mother?”
Zach said no and he showed no remorse when investigators presented him with pictures of his mother’s blood-soaked body. In fact, he never showed any remorse at all.
A Palm Springs teenager accused of fatally shooting his mother was not medically cleared to appear in court Wednesday because he is hearing voices and may be a threat, prosecutors told a Riverside County Superior Court judge.
“He claims he’s not able to control his impulses,” Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Scot Clark said. “Voices command him to do things, like kill his mother.”
A Williamston-area man who shot and killed his mother as she slept had been hearing voices ordering him to kill her, his attorney said.
At the time of the fatal shooting, Andrew Willson, now 20, was in the midst of a major depressive episode, Willson’s attorney, Stephen Milks, said Wednesday.
The night of his mother’s death, the voices repeatedly told him to kill her, Milks said. That, combined with a lack of sleep that night and a depressive episode, lowered his inhibitions to a level where he couldn’t drown the voices out.
Willson’s case is an anomaly among cases he has tried, Milks said Wednesday. The lack of a motive is boggling, he added.
Milks said the family told him Willson and his mother had a “wonderful relationship.” They didn’t notice any open hostility between the two, no more than a normal teenager’s relationship with his mother, Milks said.
The defense, however, said that Ms. Ortega was severely mentally ill and heard voices, including Satan’s, telling her to kill the children. Her lawyer, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, presented evidence that Ms. Ortega had experienced delusions and hallucinations since she was a teenager in the Dominican Republic, but that her psychosis had gone untreated and undiagnosed until after her arrest.
Two psychiatrists for the defense, Karen B. Rosenbaum and Phillip J. Resnick, said that Ms. Ortega was in the grip of a psychotic break so severe that she did not understand her actions or know they were wrong. After interviewing her family members and scouring her medical records, they came to the conclusion that she had been overcome by voices in her head in the weeks before the murders. She could not even remember the gruesome killings, they said.
Just four hours before the killings, Ms. Ortega visited a neighbor’s apartment and, agitated and pacing up and down, told a teenage woman staying there, Jennifer Reynosa, that she saw a “black shadow” that spoke to her. In more than a dozen interviews in the months after the murders, Ms. Ortega told Dr. Rosenbaum that she had been hearing voices, including Satan’s, telling her to kill herself and her employers’ children.
Mr McEwan told the Supreme Court trial that a demon named “Jazzy” made him kill her, and that he decorated a tree with her hair “like a Christmas tree”.
Mr McEwan told the court he was not mentally ill at the time but was possessed by a demon and “didn’t mean to do it”.
Mr McEwan told the jury he first started feeling an evil presence when he was around six or seven years old, but did not know it was a demon until he was 18.
“He’s been following my whole life … I call him Jazzy,” he said.
“I could feel his presence beside me as I slept. Just evil … it makes you sick.”
When asked why he named the demon “Jazzy”, Mr McEwan said it was because he started listening to jazz music at the time.
Mr Allen then asked Mr McEwan what the demon looked like.
“He has horse-like legs, with hooves and a hairy human torso. He has normal hands with claws and a goat’s head with horns and sharp teeth, and he is very muscular,” Mr McEwan replied.
For the first time, the jury heard Mr McEwan had previously stood trial for murder, but that matter was abandoned when the court heard the demon “Jazzy” was telling him to attack the prosecutor.
Mr McEwan often spent time in Wickham Park smoking marijuana and speaking to God and his late nana, the court heard.
In the video interview with O’Keefe, Sellers begins by sharing basic facts about the pursuit and arrest, but soon begins explaining in detail events of his life.
Sellers said his mother circumcised him when he was older and that throughout his youth she would “depress” his privates. He also claimed that his friends would come over and have sex with his mother on a regular basis and that she would deny this over the phone.
“We never did that,” Sellers said his mother would say to him, and then laugh and hang up the phone.
Admitting he had developed a pornography addiction when he was 13, Sellers said he had been seeing demons since he was young: one dressed like a judge with ground beef face and dark eyes, one that resembled the Grim Reaper, and one taking the appearance of a stretching mucus being with no skin.
Among these and other supernatural elements in his story, Sellers said he believed his mother had brought darkness into their lives through a “demon box” when he was young.
Sellers said finally, during a culmination of darkness in his life, a voice told him “’People that cause you the most problems in life are the ones that you kill.’”
If you are hearing voices, please repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. He can heal, deliver, and forgive. Feel free to contact me for prayer.
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you can receive Him into your heart and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.
If you are sincere you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
If you are plagued with voices and need prayer then feel free to contact me.
