1. Put on the Whole Armor of God
The Christian’s spiritual armor is detailed in Ephesians 6:10-18. There are seven pieces of armor (eight if you count the cloak of zeal found in Isaiah 59:17). (1) Loins girt about with truth, (2) The breastplate of righteousness, (3) Free shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, (4) The shield of faith, (5) The helmet of salvation , (6) The sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, and (7) Praying in the spirit. Pay close attention to the “helmet of salvation” for the guarding of your thought life. Demons will sometimes try to assail the thoughts to re-enter. Become vigilant about any thoughts you think are ungodly or negative which likely is from the enemy. Rebuking the enemy in the name of Jesus when those thoughts come in can be useful.
2. Stay in the Scriptures
How did Jesus withstood satan’s temptations? He quoted scriptures. Jesus said “it is written… it is written… it is written”. The word of is a lamp unto our feet for guidance (Psalm 119:105); it is a cleansing agent (Eph. 5:25,26); it is a two-edged sword, laying bare the heart (Heb. 4:12); it is food for the spirit (1 Pet. 2:2; Matt. 4:4).
3. Crucify the Flesh
Deny yourself and take up your cross daily and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23). Stop practicing hold habit patterns that are not aligned with God’s will.
4. Develop a Life of Continuous Praise, Worship, and Prayer
I have heard testimonies of people who received deliverance just by engaging in praise and worship in the Spirit. Cry out to God in prayer. Give Him glory, thanksgiving, and adoration.
5. Commit Yourself Totally to Jesus Christ
Determine that every thought, word and action is what God would want from you. Walk as Jesus walked. Abide in Jesus that the fruits of the Spirit might come forth in abundance.
