“People today are channeling spirits via occult methods such as meditation or self hypnosis. Channeling is important to the New Age Movement because many of the spirits impart information on a wide variety of New Age philosophies and practices. Channeling includes different forms. One form brings complete loss of consciousness, while the other involves partial loss of consciousness. Another form is known as “automatism,” where the spirit seems only to control part of the body, such as the hands in automatic writing or painting. There is also “clairaudient” channeling where the medium only hears the words dictated by the spirits, as was true for Helen Schucman, the human amanuensis behind the popular “A Course in Miracles.” There is “clairvoyant” channeling where the spirits put certain images, pictures, or symbols into the mind of the person for a variety of purposes. Throughout history of religion, occultism, spiritism, and parapsychology channeling has been responsible for mental illness, suicide, physical crippling, blindness, shortened life, and death. The very act of channeling itself appears to have a destructive effect upon the human body. It is as if there is a type of “psychic vampirism” at work, which eats away at a person’s physical constitution. Channeling is condemned in the Bible as an evil practice before God (Deut. 18:9-12). Those spirits usually present themselves as benevolent, but are really deceiving demons. If you are practicing channeling, repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ!”

“Who do the spirits claim they are?

The spirits claim to be many things. Judging from their own teachings, by far the most common assertion is that they are the spirits of the human dead…. The spirits claim that if enough people will listen to them, they can even help bring a worldwide spiritual awakening. This will produce a New Age of peace and harmony.

We should also keep in mind that the spirits will also appear in the form most desirable or interesting to them once they are seeking to contact. For example, the spirits claim to be extraterrestrials (including Martians and Venusians),  various gods of ancient or modern cultures (or God Himself), Jesus Christ, ascended masters, “group beings,” angels and nature spirits. By doing this, they know they will spark the interest of the people they are contacting. They may also claim to be various aspects of the human mind or the “collective mind of humanity (some of the terms used here include the Creative Unconscious, the Higher Self, the Oversoul, the Super-conscious Mind, the Universal Mind, and the Collective Unconscious). They also claim to be the Holy Spirit, troubled ghosts, the spirits of animals and plants (dolphins, trees, flowers), multiple human personalities, the inhabitants of mythical cultures (Atlanteans, Lemurians), and even a possible alien computer that exists in the future.” (The Facts on Spirit Guides, pg. 15-16)

“What evidence would lead a thinking person to conclude that the actions of the channeled spirits suggest their nature is evil?

The entire history of the influence of these beings upon humanity suggests their nature is evil. That these spirits are evil can be documented from history, religion, psychology, and especially from the experiences of the channelers themselves…Because channeling is contact with demons, it is an evil practice by itself, and it is also one that leads to countless other evils.. the spirits whose teachings reject God and lie about Christ cannot be considered good” (The Facts on Spirit Guides, pg. 35).

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins, just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
