Here is an instance where a person may be open to demonic attacks even though the person himself never did anything to open the “door” (by sin) to the enemy.

Occultists or witches can use objects such as voodoo dolls to curse a person or people.

Christian authors Ankerberg and Weldon wrote:

…pagan idols are not merely artistic pieces of dead wood. They often have a power behind them, as idol worshipers know only too well. Indeed, many objects used in occult practices carry spiritual potency. Ouija boards, tarot cards, I Ching, rune dice, crystals and gems, astrology charts, talismans, dowsing rods, and many other physical implements used in occult, idolatrous practices may become channels for demonic powers…..

(The Coming Darkness, 277)

In Joshua 7:1-26 are examples of cursed objects. An Israelite brought back objects from an enemy camp, which made the Lord angry. The enemy very likely worshiped false gods and/or other practices and that “defiled” their possessions.

Whether the person knows it or not, it is demons that are behind the curse. The following are examples of cursed objects to intentionally harm people:

A Russian city has been spooked by the sudden appearance of sinister “voodoo dolls” spiked with needles.

Pensioners complained of blood pressure problems after seeing the haunting mannequins at dozens of locations.

One local complained: ”Creepy dolls are nailed to the pillars, fences and bus stops in Zavetny on the outskirts of Armavir in Krasnodar region.

“The little girl mannequins are pierced with needles and tied with black threads.”

Residents called for an explanation of the dozens of weird dolls which appeared overnight.

There were complaints to police.

“Two were sitting at a bus stop,” said another householder.

“A doll in a in a pink ball gown was found in the park.”

A local warned: “A curse has been put on our village.”

Several were eyeless or one-armed.

They were dressed in girls clothes or school uniforms.

Head of the local council Dmitry Barkov said: “We have urgently brought together police officers to instruct them to calm people.”

Police are studying CCTV cameras to identify those who distributed the dolls around the area even though planting voodoo dolls is not a crime, say reports.

Meanwhile a local security officer has admitted dumping the mannequins – “the same size as a child” – at a local tip.

Tatiana Kokoreva claimed they belonged to a local culture museum and were previously used in a puppet theatre which closed long ago.

They were no longer needed and the security officer thought her daughter, a teacher, could use them.

But the school rejected them as unsafe and too scary, so she dumped them.

She insisted she was not responsible for dressing them up as voodoo dolls.

The following example was a similar event:

Villagers in a small Central American town are blaming violent convulsions on a voodoo doll.

Up to 30 residents living in Santa Tomas, Guatemala, claim they have been “possessed by the devil” after suffering “grisi siknis,” which directly translates to “crazy sickness.”

The sickness is a culture-bound syndrome that mostly affects Central American communities.

It is believed to be contagious, and leads sufferers to become violent as they see visions of the devil.

They eerily go on to name the sicknesses’ next victim, while suffering from a range of symptoms including headaches, nausea, anxiety, dizziness and anger.

They are also reported to go through periods of “rapid frenzy”.

A video of villagers suffering the symptoms of the “crazy sickness” has appeared online.

The clip depicts several residents with their hands and legs bound, as they spin around uncontrollably.

One local, known as Marisella, is trying to help her neighbors fight the illness with homemade remedies, which she believes have the power to cure the bizarre syndrome.

She mixes medicines, which are then poured on the sufferers’ backs in the hopes of warding off the evil spirits for good.

After spending a great deal of time investigating potential causes of the violent “possessions”, Mariella said she believes a small voodoo doll is to blame.

As locals were searching high and low for clues, a doll was found stuffed in a bag with crosses on its face, which is seen as a presence of dark spirits.

Mariella thinks the doll was cursed by an outsider who wants to harm the community.

She explained: “A doll with black ribbon and a cross marked on its face [has been found in a street].

“It suggests that it’s affected by dark spells and bad influences. A type of bad spirit.”

The villagers set the doll on fire in a bid to break the curse.

Just know the Lord Jesus Christ has the power to break any demonic curse. Such curses are ineffective against those protected by the Lord. Ex-witch Doreen Irvine who turned Christian said:

“I tried to put curses on the preacher, but they did not work. There was a barrier between my power and the preacher, who was a man of great faith and courage. I was puzzled. My powers had never before failed. I had no idea that far greater power than of Satan was protecting this man – the mighty power of the Lord Jesus Christ” (Freed from Witchcraft, 98).

One who has faith in Christ should have no reason to fear anything of the enemy. The Bible reads “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower” (Psalms 18:2). Amen!

If you believe you find such an object, pray against it in the name of Jesus and the next practical thing to do is remove it or burn it as the newly converted Christians did in the Acts 19:19.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
