It’s true the Bible doesn’t address smoking directly (as it doesn’t address cocaine and marijuana smoking) but the Bible surely has applicable passages which certainly condemns smoking cigarettes. The Bible states that we should walk as Jesus walked and imitate Christ and to imitate God (1 John 1:26; Ephesians 5:1). Do you honestly think Jesus would ever buy a pack of Marlboros to smoke?
Many people who smoke cigarettes are addicted to it. The Bible however reads one shouldn’t be under the power of anything:
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Corinthians 6:12).
The Bible also reads that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is given freely to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:
“19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Smoking cigarettes also feed the lusts of the flesh. The Bible reads:
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof” (Romans 13:4).
We ought to care for the temple of God (the body) and not defile it. The Bible gives a stern warning to those who defile God’s temple that God will destroy the person (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). It has been medically established that smoking cigarettes can be very detrimental to one’s health. Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, increases the risk of all forms of stroke, and reduces the health of smokers in general [source]. Former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop warned, “Cigarette smoking is clearly identified as the chief preventable cause of death in our society and the most important public health issue of our time” [source]. If satan is the one who comes to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10), how can one deny satan is behind the prevalence of smoking?
I have heard a testimony of a man who said he saw demons enter cigarettes. I have also heard when a person smoke cigarettes, the person is giving satan a burnt offering. I don’t know if that is true or not. But whether literally or figuratively, it certainly is a false incense, strange fire in the temple of the Lord (your body), assuming you are a Christian.
I have heard testimonies where Jesus took away the addiction to cigarette smoking, even instantly. God is certainly a deliverer.
Lord Jesus, I repent and renounce addiction, false comfort, not trusting fully in you, nicotine, and (the brand of the cigarette you smoke). I break the curse of death and defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit, smoking mind control, and all the triggers…I cut the addiction off my flesh with the sword of the spirit. We bind the strongman, and spoil it in the Lord Jesus name!!
Forgive me for spending the Lord’s money on self-destruction, and not using the money for your Kingdom.
I ask forgiveness and break every curse that is in my life or ancestry that has allowed the smoking to afflict me…I break this curse right now with the blood of Jesus! I receive the blessing in place of this curse.
I cut you off with the sword of the spirit! I pierce the demon behind smoking with the sword of the Spirit.. we pierce you in the name of Jesus! The strongman of addiction, come out now in Jesus name!!
All that tar come out….destruction of the lungs go in Jesus name!
Lord Jesus, I renounce all burnt offerings to satan.
I remove myself from every devil’s table of confusion, double-mindedness, and anything that would block me from receiving you clearly. Everything in the Lord’s temple I command you to come out on the name of Jesus! I also command restoration of my lungs, and skin in Jesus name… I cancel the assignment of the destroyer and command it to go in the name of Jesus!
Lord Jesus, thank you for setting me FREE!!!! Glory to God the Highest!
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.
If you are sincere you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
