“Abstain from all appearance of evil.” – Thess. 5:22

There seems to be a growing trend in the New Age movement, and it is the use of Tibetan singing bowls (also called Himalayan bowls) for relaxation. Popular R&B singers Jhene Aiko and SZA claim sound bowls are a secret weapon for healing. Other people use Tibetan singing bowls for music making, meditation, and for “personal spirituality.”
The use of Tibetan bowls is drawn from Tibetan Buddhism (which includes the animistic Bon religion), Taoism, and Hinduism. At least that is what some have claimed. Some researchers have denied it came from Tibet. Some say the true origin of the Tibetan singing bowls may only date back to the 1970s. Whatever the case, it certainly is of the demonic New Age movement.

An article reads about how Tibetan singing bowls are used:
Tibetan bowls, which are metal, release two frequencies. Striking them at the rim, rather than the bottom of the bowl, will produce different notes which emit different frequencies. Crystal bowls, like the ones Aiko uses on Chilombo, vary depending on which gems are infused in their glass. Most bowls are infused with crystal quartz, which is said to help restore energy, but when SZA wants to feel cleansed, she reaches for her selenite bowl, and when she wants to feel loved, she grabs a bowl infused with morganite.
One mainstream news source reports on its supposed benefits:
Never heard of the ancient sound-healing practice? The relaxing musical presentations, which predate Christ and have been scientifically linked to reductions in stress and anxiety, are becoming more popular in the United States, likely linked to the country’s increased interest in health, wellness, meditation and mindfulness.
[Note: When you read buzzwords such as frequencies, vibrations, mindfulness, wellness, etc. Watch out! It could be something of the New Age.]
Science proves it reduces stress and anxiety, right? I don’t know if it is conclusive. But even if it actually does reduce stress and anxiety, so does the use of certain street drugs. Just because it may benefit in some aspects doesn’t mean it is without harm in others.
Now, I am not claiming that getting involved with Tibetan singing bowls can open oneself to demonization. I have yet to encounter a person who has been demonized as a result of using it. However, since it seems to be gaining popularity in the New Age movement and possibly has its roots in Eastern Religions – all deceptions of satan – it should be avoided. One who is involved with Tibetan bowls is probably also involved in other New Age-related practices, such as New Age Meditation and New Age Crystals, which can possibly lead to demonization. Since those involved in the New Age movement are being led by deceiving spirits, it would be wise to avoid whatever trendy practices they have. It may be that singing bowls are without spiritual effects, but why take the risk? There are so many other ways to relax (have you tried taking a walk in the park?).
If a non-Christian is reading this, know that the only-begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, who manifested in the flesh and is one with the Heavenly Father, and is fully God and fully Man. Jesus willingly took on the suffering and penalty for sins on the cross, bodily resurrected, and ascended to God the Father. Forgiveness and peace with God are offered to all who believe in him.
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.
If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”

I think we need to alway evaluate and consult the scriptures and search our hearts and not go into situations blindly.
Are singing bowls themselves evil? Or is it the intention and the heart? We need to be careful and not get into situations that could lead us from Him. It is a harder road for sure. Awareness and discernment is so important.

If God created everything, why would His crystals be demonic? I feel He left things for us to have to help us through life but also through Him.

God created it alright, but He did not put them in singing bowls, He put them in the earth for His purpose, whether that be for the earths resonant frequency and balance or whatever we can never know the mysteries of God. But for humans to manipulate his creation to communicate with the spirit world is not Biblical, it’s evil doctrine because it is self religious and does not glorify God. The only One we need is Jesus Christ He can give you so much more than any man made bowl can, or the spirit channeled thereby. Do not be deceived. Earthly elemental spirits are not God, if you look to them you are putting it before God and will be held accountable.

When you say “He did not put them in singing bowls”, what are you referring to when you say “them”? If the bowl was possibly made for earth’s balance in some way, a human still has to create/form the bowl and create the motion with an object around the bowl to emit the sound. Whether they use that sound for music or for relaxation, the intention of creating that sound is the key part here.

I can’t believe how brainwashed some of you people are – Christianity is supposed to be accepting not dismissive of other cultures. Using bowls to meditate is the same as a hymnal to help with praying.

Make a joyful noise onto the Lord. Use all instruments to celebrate the Lord. It’s this type of twisting the Bible scriptures that sends people running from Christianity and straight to Atheism which means they are out there with no protection. How about play your bowls and whisper Jesus, Jesus, JESUS. Prejudice and Racism in disguise. Being raised Catholic ran me away until I found that non-denominational was a way to worship and study our Lord. Be careful what you preach. Crystals are part of the Earth. Is anyone worshipping the crystals? Over reaching scaring folks away from God and straight to Satan. Please do extensive research. God has his way to reach us all. Jerusalem his chosen place and people, yet they are going to hell for not believing that Jesus is the savior….. don’t you think that God is going to work that out. You need to worry about the folks who think Trump was sent by God to tear up the Capitol. Pray for them in everyway possible. Amen

Excellent point. Just recently, the leader in the bible used a Tibetan bowl. I was really disturbed by it. Also, adding familiars of the new age. It’s not Christ-like. It’s not of God. So, I turn it off and pray for the leadership. Thank you. I thank God for confirming!

All the people that say Crystal’s are demonic stress me out. Heaven is made of Crystal’s and stones, it’s literally the intention and use that causes an issue not the rock 🤦♀️ I am looking into the bowls to play with my kids and it seems it’s the same deal. As long as we arent using then the wrong way it’s just another instrument.

crystals were made by God. crystals have energy bc everything has energy. that’s a scientific fact crystals hold neutral energy. people using them as alternative “medicine” or just wearing them i don’t believe is harmful to our relationship with Christ. the bible is full of vibe verses about crystals and Aaron had 12 stones on his chest plate and God had him also put certain crystals known for certain things in his pockets. you should read into it. you can use crystals for bad, like how wiccans use them for ritual purposes. singing bowls are simply used for relaxing. it’s proven that sound has been used for a long time to heal. saying relaxation and mindfulness is bad bc a buddhist discovered it’s healing techniques is like saying gravity is british bc issac newton discovered it. there are ways to make anything sinful. like if you make these things an idol in your life or use them to worship another God. but for christian’s, we aren’t wrong for meditating. God calls for us to be mindful and still in the bible and to meditate his word. you being mindful in the present moment and taking deep breaths isn’t opening you up to demons bc your mind is blowing thru racing thoughts. the Lord wants us to help do things to alleviate mental illness. you can use a sound bowl to praise and sing to God if you wish you. just because you’re making music with an instrument that other people who believed other things used doesn’t make that instrument evil…..

I am a Christian and have been one for Many years. I have both brass and crystal singing bowls, which I use for relaxation and meditation. They help me to relax, unwind, and to unstress after a busy, hectic day, while providing peaceful, calm effects on my body. They also help me sleep at night, because of they’re relaxing properties. I use them as a means of relaxing self care. I have never used them as a “new age” practice in any way, as I do not agree in using them in such ways. Just because someone has singing bowls does not always mean they are using them in some new age practice. I have had years of stress and trauma, and believe God led me to find singing bowls as a means of relaxation, unwinding, enjoyment and to destress from life. They help my muscles to loosen and not be so tight..(I have neck, shoulder and sciatica pain) The sounds are healing, comforting, and peaceful, causing my body to become relaxed and rested, which has helped me immensely. The bowls are also BEAUTIFUL to hear, brcause they are different notes. God does provide and uses things in this world that can help people, as long as they use discretion and do not misuse/abuse things he has made/provided. It is how and the way people use things as to whether it is right or wrong. The item itself isn’t evil.

This article states again and again, “New age bad” but there is not one example of how or why they are pathways of demons. Buzzwords bad, such as frequencies, vibrations, mindfulness, wellness”. Why?? There is not one word explaining why these could not lead to Jesus. This article is, at best, lazy writing, rewritten hash with zero substance. It is meant to reassure the fundamentalist and to spread a false alarm across the land. My favorite sentence is, “But even if it actually does reduce stress and anxiety, so does use of certain street drugs. Just because it may benefit in some aspect doesn’t mean it is without harm in others.” Well, following Jesus also reduces stress and anxiety. Is the author equating Jesus to street drugs? Do some homework, get some facts, write from your bias if you must but at least give us some truth in your next article.

This is the first time I’ve heard of this. My daughter told me about it. I listen to music while I sleep, and I found music on YouTube that was supposed to relieve anxiety, stress, etc. I listened to it for 2 nights. On the second night, I had two nightmares – which I usually do not have. After waking up, I began praying and the Holy Spirit revealed to me that it was the music I was listening to so I changed it back to the music I usually listen to at night. When I showed my daughter the video, she told me it was bowl music. I know I will never play this music ever again. I will stick with my worship music.

Nightmares are the body’s way of processing old experiences and ideas. While they feels scary and bad it actually means the brain is working through old information, possible traumas we’ve gone through, etc… so they are actually a good thing. A sign the body, mind and spirit are trying to heal and work through things.
You felt an answer it was from the music you were listening to but did you ask more questions to determine if it was desireable or not? If I had a belief that nightmares were inherently bad, I know I would not think to ask such a thing.
Research has shown nightmares are actually a good thing and often are symbolic in nature many times. An example is Joseph of Egypt, he studied and interpreted dreams by study and by God’s power. The Pharaoh had a nightmare of cattle and corn but the dream was a blessing and a warning of upcoming 7 years of feast followed by 7 years of famine. Things do not literally mean what they seem in dreams. But the nightmare allowed many people to be physically saved from death in this instance. It also allowed many to be exposed to Joseph’s God and the gospel and possibly experience spiritual saving as well.
I would pray about the specific tracks of music you were listening to individually to discern if it was helping you, even though it caused an unpleasant dream. I would also discern if the person playing was affecting a positive or negative influence on you in their playing. Intention, as has been mentioned by others, is important. Perhaps someone else’s music would be better or worse. All this, making sure to put your own ideas and prejudices aside and relying on God’s truth and enlightenment so as not to be deceived. Perhaps the answer you got that it was the music you were listening to was only the first half of an answer but missing the second half could completely change the meaning you thought it meant. Two extremely different examples to demonstrate this point.
Example: “It’s the music you’ve been listening to…It’s demonic and of the devil. Stay away from it.”
Example: “It’s the music you’ve been listening to…It’s helping shake free the pain and hurtful experiences in your life so you can be more pure, clear, and free to draw closer to, and become more like me.”
As you can see, context can change everything. Knowledge and wisdom can be great guides. God has commanded us to learn to become like him. To do the things he did. Christ spent much of his life studying and learning before he started his ministry. He did not give himself to flights of fancy nor misinformation. When the devil came and tempted him, he already knew the law very well and used it to quickly combat him and send him on his way.
If you don’t know the actual laws for yourself and well, you place yourself in a precarious position of sliding off a ledge you do not see – for not knowing to look or where. I wish you the best of discernment if you choose to further re-examine your experience more fully to get a true, sure and fully informed answer about all the aspects of your experience. May you look at it from all the angles and think to ask all the right questions to explore his answer more fully. I feel like you only got part of it there and once you have the full answer you will know and understand more.

I used these bowls for meditation before accepting Jesus. It did lead me to some deep connection to the spiritual realm. A ‘no holds barred’ sort of experience. It scared me how much clarity and potential power was manifested. I prayed to find out right from wrong, or if it these gifts were of God, and God sent a helper to understand the moral foundation that comes from the Bible. Long story short, no they weren’t. I have much more guidance and peace now… threw away a lot of spiritistic things and beliefs. I am scared to meditate and use these bowls now however. Is it okay to do these things? After 5 years of studying the Bible, it still isn’t an easy question to answer. Peacefulness is harder to come by, the world being what it is. Jesus said being a Christian would cause us to be persecuted, and that has been absolutely true. But comfort in understanding how God love’s us is a blessing. I wish there weren’t so many tainted things and we can just enjoy the world, or at least I could appreciate the simpler things more. Lots more to learn and to grow from, but always through the keyhole of the truth. Not everything is blessed, only those things approved by God. Discretion is important though. He gave us free will with a warning to play at our own risk.

If you have the Armor of God on how can sound bowl music hurt you. I go to a Yoga Class and I Pray to God during the class. The class is purely physical for me. I do not use sound bowls but if I did I would Pray to God as my Meditation. I Meditate on God. I have had Meditation music on sometimes when praying. I was raised Catholic. In church they used bells and incense. Both these items could be called New Age today. So is Incense or bells or sound Bowls not if God. Good Question.

I had a session the other night for the 1st time. This woman I know asked me if I wanted to go and I did. All we did was sit there and listen to the music from the bowls. It was an hour session and thought it was very relaxing. To me it was a form of meditation. My Christian friend said I shouldn’t indulge in it because it could be an opening for the evil one. I hope not because I liked it. On top of the music bowls they had water trickling in the background and it was so meditative. I felt it was a good way to meditate. I am not into new age but I hope this is not an opening for the evil one. I love God and don’t think this had any evil in it. The person who did the bowls was very nice and kind. I did check into it and it stated if you have any metal in your body it may affect you in a negative way. Anyway I hope I will be able to do it again. God puts people, places and things in our lives for a reason. I hold God close to me and hope this is a good thing and not evil.

You people can’t be this close-minded and ignorant. A sound bowl is no different from a harp (which was used to heal someone in the Bible) or a piano. Sound IS healing and there is nothing evil attached to it. I see the article dragging about Crystal Quartz. Well if that’s “evil,” throw away all your technology because it has Crystal Quartz in it as well. But nope, you’re here using your Crystal infused phones and computers to say it’s “New Age.” It’s actually ancient age and predates Yeshua. Or should I say, Jesus.

The level of ignorance and mis-information here is obscene. Christians need to learn how to just shut up and just praise God. Stop trying to educate people on what’s right and wrong and just focus on Jesus. If you REALLY want to help someone, teach them how to get close to God. When you get close to God, you understand the sheer ignorance of most things and understand also that you don’t need to distribute the rules and regulations of Christianity to anyone. It should also be said that grossly misrepresenting Christianity is such a serious offense, like this article is insulting to humanity. It is a serious offense to spread lies and mis-information about other people’s religions as well. Go back in the prayer closet with this one.
