Scriptures Concerning Pride

Pride is the root cause of the beginning of sin in the universe. It was pride that led the devil to rebel against God (read Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14). Perhaps that is why God considers pride to be an abomination.

I am convinced that having pride can even open a person to demonization. I have come across enough demonized people to come to that conclusion. When praying for deliverance, the demon would confess by the authority of Jesus that it came inside the person through pride. There were cases where the demon in the person wouldn’t come out when prayed against because of the sin of pride. Sure enough, the person was dealing with issues of being prideful.

The Lord Jesus Christ listed pride as one of the things that can defile a person (Mark 7:22). Let us all humble ourselves before the Lord, and He will lift us up in due time (1 Peter 5:6). He opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).

Scriptures concerning pride

Proverbs 3:4 – Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.”

Proverbs 3:7 – “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”

Proverbs 8:13 – “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”

Proverbs 11:2 – [When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.

Proverbs 16:5 – Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Proverbs 29:23 – A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Proverbs 16:18 – Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Galatians 6:3 – For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Proverbs 27:2 – Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

Proverbs 26:12 – Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.

James 4:6 – But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Jeremiah 9:23 – Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty [man] glory in his might, let not the rich [man] glory in his riches:

Philippians 2:3 – [Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

1 John 2:16 – For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Romans 12:16 – [Be] of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
