“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” – Eph. 4:29

“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.” – Eph. 5:4

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” – Col. 3:9-10

“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.” Pro. 4:24

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” -James 3:5-6

“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” – James 3:10

“Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.” – Matt. 15:11

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” – Matt. 12:36

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:” – 1 Peter 3:10

“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein isa breach in the spirit.” – Pro. 15:4

What may not be categorized as cussing but still a sin is using the Lord’s name in vain. It’s no coincidence that a lot of people routinely use the name of Jesus in vain – the name above all names (Phil. 2:8; Ephesians 1:20-21) – in vain.

“Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name….“” – Matt. 6:9

”You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.” – Exo. 20:7

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you can receive Him into your heart and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
