“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: BUT HER END IS BITTER AS WORMWOOD, SHARP AS A TWO-EDGED SWORD.” – Proverbs 5:3-4

“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” – 1 Cor. 6:18

There is an epidemic of people struggling with sexual sin. The United States is saturated with sexual immorality (the U.S. leads the world in hosting pornography sites). Some of the most visited websites are porn sites. Very popular social media websites such as Instagram, although it doesn’t allow hardcore pornography, is filled with lewd posts. Sexual sins are not just rampant in the non-Christian world but also in the churches. Judging from my interactions with numerous people in ministry I would say sexual sins are the most common sins people are plagued with. It is in the pulpit as well as the pew. It’s among adults as well as young people. Sexual sins show up with the married (adultery or unbiblical remarriage) and show up among the unmarried (fornication). Many men and women, whether married or unmarried, are bound by the sin of masturbation. Sadly, all the sexual sins practiced by non-Christians is perhaps just as much practiced by professing Christians. This is alarming.

The truth is that sexual sin is wreaking havoc in the lives of many Christians just as badly as those in nightclubs or have hookups via dating apps. Absolutely nothing good ever comes out of sin. With sexual sin there is always a terrible cost. Anything as valuable and wholesome as sex is a major target of satan’s kingdom. Sex can bring much pleasure to a person’s life but it can also wreak havoc on a person’s life as well. It can be the source of fulfillment, but also the source of much heartache – depending on whether sex was practiced within the confinement of God’s commandments for a person’s life.

I have seen how sex has left people ruined even to the point of demonization. You see, when people have illicit sex it can open the door for demonic infestation. I have personally expelled demons out of people by the authority of Jesus that got demonized because of the involvement with prostitutes or sodomy. The demons would talk right of the person’s mouth and would confess, under the authority of Jesus, that it entered the person because of homosexuality or fornication. There were instances where the demons will mention names of people that the person fornicated with when asked what was the sin that allowed it in. Demons can transfer from one person to another via the act of fornication.

Don’t be fooled, demons can put pressure on people to commit sexual immorality. Some of you have had sexual dreams where evil spirits have tempted you to yield to lust. Satan knows the dangers and consequences of sexual immorality. The reason it has left people in a worst off condition is that people have taken something precious and turned it into an idol. Yes, idols are not only just mere statues or images that people bow down to but can be anything one puts before the true and living God. Indeed, sex has become a god for many people which lead them into darkness and into the bondage of addictive behavior.

In Proverbs 5, King Solomon gives a stern warning to his son of the dangers of sexual sin. Eight times in Proverbs, Solomon addresses the topic by focusing on the draw of the strange woman (“one who turns aside”), or the adultress, showing that sexual sins can be a problem for women as well.

Sex within God’s design for it (heterosexual marriage) can bring great pleasure, intimacy, and blessings but all sexual sins bring horrible consequences despite the momentary pleasure it may temporary bring. The horrible consequences of sexual sin can be shame, humiliation, objectification, guilt, disgrace, degradation, a seared conscience, sexually transmitted diseases (or infections), destruction of marriage/family, loss of ministry, abortions, divorce, child support, children born out of wedlock, fatherless or motherless children, grief of the Holy Spirit, and demonization to name a few. The most serious consequence is the loss of one’s own soul in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8).

There is hope for those ensnared by sexual sin. If you truly repent of your sexual immorality and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ, He can completely cleanse you from the sin. He can cleanse you and pardon you from your sinful past. God is full of tender mercies and grace. The Bible is clear “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

If you are sincere you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
