“But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” – Proverbs 8:36
I make this post as a warning to people in light of a Christian from South Africa I recently prayed for who believed to got demonized from indulging in a certain kind of music. The type of music he loved to listed to is called deathcore (something I never knew existed before), a subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. Low growls and shrieked screams are common types of vocals in deathcore. Some other techniques that deathcore vocalists have used includes pig squeals! Darkness, shocking, macabre, and of course death is what one can describe the imagery associated with deathcore.
One of his favorite singers is/was called Alex Terrible, formerly from the band Slaughter to Prevail (what a name, huh?), from Russia. He said he listened to such music for 14 years for hours every day. He would also listen to bands or singers such as Heaven Shall Burn, All Shall Perish (white names!), Whitechapel, Bring Me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Chelsea Grin, and Attila. He said he was drawn to the music like an addict. He even considered buying Alex’s mask (which is probably cursed, as objects can have demonic attachments).
Why did he suspect he was demonized? He heard tormenting voices in his head, a telltale sign of demonization, blaspheming God but the voices would mimic is his own inner voice to make it seem like he was the one responsible. Consequently, he would feel condemned and guilty. This is not an uncommon tactic of satan’s kingdom to make people feel like they blasphemed God in their thoughts to make a person feel condemned.
He also related to me that when he sang the lyrics, it was like another voice came out of his mouth that wasn’t his own—it was very supernatural. It is likely the evil spirit(s) that inhabited him was behind it. Such a thing is not so outlandish, considering several pop musicians admitted to feeling something taking control of them as they sang. R&B singer Beyonce revealed that something takes control of her (apparently an evil spirit) when she goes on stage.
He also shared with me, he saw a spirit with a hood and a face of a cow with horns in his home. It may have been the music had some part in opening the door for that evil spirit into his home.
After we renounced and repented of his involvement with the cursed music, deliverance was prayed for him, and sure enough he said something came out of him. Afterward, he felt much relief, and peace, and his mind became much clearer. He no longer felt easily angered.
It really shouldn’t take much convincing to anyone that deathcore, and similar music, is straight from satan’s kingdom. There is no doubt satan uses a lot of music today to carry out his wicked agenda. The same goes for a lot of the Hip Hop music, which has recently taken over Rock as the most popular genre.
If one indulges in things of satan’s kingdom, one shouldn’t be surprised doors are opened to the enemy. Let’s all repent and hold fast that which is good, abstaining from all appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:21-22). Don’t allow ourselves to be polluted by the world, but rather focus on things that are pure and lovely (James 1:27; James 4:4; Phil. 4:8).
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.
If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
