Thin places, veils, or vortexes (or vortices) are supposedly found at sacred sites throughout the world – the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru, Stonehenge, Uluru/Ayers Rock in Australia, etc. It is believed that this supposed vortex energy moves in a spiral, moving up or down. One place known for it is Sedona, Arizona in America, also called the “Cathedral without Walls.”

Sedona is a hotbed for New Agers. It can be considered the capital of the New Age in the United States. People from all over the world travel there to get involved in various New Age activities. Strip-malls there are full of crystal shops, aura-reading stations and psychics. Some New Age gurus/cult leaders, such as Bentinho Massaro, go there to hold their seminar or retreats and of course their devotees follow. There is something about Sedona that has made people travel here for something more than just its incredible beauty. What is it?
One news report reads about its history:
Sedona didn’t become America’s new age capital until the 1980s, when a US psychic named Page Bryant identified the vortexes after a vision. These vortexes were places where spiritual energy was at its highest point, where you could tap into the frequencies of the universe, where you could, by closing your eyes, start to change your life. Spiritual seekers across the country listened. In 1987, Sedona was host to one of the largest branches of the Harmonic Convergence – a new age synchronised meditation – when 5,000 pilgrims came to get in touch with the universe at the Bell Rock butte, believed by many to be a vortex.
What is a vortex? According to a site that promotes it:
Sedona vortexes (the proper grammatical form ‘vortices’ is rarely used) are thought to be swirling centers of energy that are conducive to healing, meditation and self-exploration. These are places where the earth seems especially alive with energy. Many people feel inspired, recharged or uplifted after visiting a vortex.
Another site that promotes it reads:
The veil between the worlds is very thin in this special place. If you invoke affirmations and life-changing decisions here they can gain extra power and acceleration. In this place you can choose to leave your past behind and fly! Many people have experiences with their animal totems or spirit guides—so be ready!
Another site reads something similar:
The Native Americans believe that spiritual transformation can occur more quickly and easily in Sedona because the veils to other dimensions are thinner here.

In other words, these vortices or “thin places” refer to geographic locations that supposedly have a certain sacred quality one can sense or feel. These “thin” places are allegedly where the separation between two worlds is at its thinnest, such as between the natural and supernatural.
The site further reads:
Although all of Sedona is considered to be a vortex, there are specific sites where the energy crackles most intensely. The four best known Sedona vortexes are found at Airport Mesa, Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and Boynton Canyon—each radiating its own particular energy. Some are thought to produce energy flowing upward while at others the energy spirals downward, entering the earth.
…Don’t be surprised to find people doing meditation, yoga or performing other rituals at vortex sites.
These vortex (or vortices) or “thin places” are surprisingly found in some evangelical writings. It is sad such a concept had made its way into the church.
So what’s it really about?
Getting involved with New Age practices alone can open the doors to demonization, but it seems to be more the case when practicing it at these “thin place” locations. One site promoting it reads:
“Ask a question and see what answer bubbles up first (don’t edit the answer with your mind). Keep breathing and notice any differences in how you feel – you may feel more relaxed, your body may start to tingle, you may feel your heart open, you may feel an old injury ache, as the energy moves through that area of your body for healing. And, you may simply just feel good! Wouldn’t that be something!
The benefit of connecting with the vortex energy can have lasting effects well after leaving Sedona . This is what has made Sedona the go-to place for spiritual seekers from all over the world.”
That “energy” New Agers seek out is not good at all. It has been exposed here that this mystical energy they feel is nothing more than demons masquerading!
The Bible reads in Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The Bible reveals that satan’s kingdom can set up strongholds in geographical areas. In Revelation 2:13, the Lord Jesus said satan set up his throne in a certain area. In the Book of Daniel, the prophet Daniel encountered an angel of God who wrestled with a spirit of satan’s kingdom called the Prince of Persia (Daniel 10:13-21). Another example can be found when the Lord Jesus encountered a man controlled by evil spirits in the country of the Gerasenes (Mark 5:1-20). When Jesus confronted them, we are told, “And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country” (v. 10). These spirits appear to focus on one area and did not desire to leave it.

I believe just as one can open doors or portals to the enemy in one’s home by practicing sin (such as playing with an Ouija Board), doors can also be opened outside, even for a whole city or nation. I shared my supernatural experience where I was on Hollywood Boulevard one late weekend night and felt the most overwhelming evil presence throughout the area. My belief is that doors were opened to the enemy to “flood” the place because of the blatant sins practiced there. Such a thing is likewise going on in Sedona. It may feel more “spiritual” there because many people continuously open doors to the enemy with their New Age practices.
Instead of seeking vortices or thin places for supernatural thrills to intensify the spiritual feelings one receives with New Age practices, repent and turn to the Lord and God Jesus Christ for salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit. New Age spirituality is false spirituality. The New Age is a ginormous lie from the devil that will never lead to fulfillment or truth. Only the Jesus Christ of the Bible can provide you with genuine spirituality, and a relationship with God. The Good News is that salvation is a gift given freely to whomever comes to the Lord Jesus Christ. He can forgive all sins if you repent and believe.
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.
If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word- for-word):
“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
Thank you. Beautifully done. Keep up the great work. So glad to have discovered your thinking and writing. These are excellent points about vortices — Sedona in particular. I hadn’t made the connection between vortices and New Age/occult practices and demonic portals before reading this post.
