Incest and Child Sexual Abuse and Demonization

See, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” –Psalm 127:3

Being involved in deliverance ministry, to my dismay, I come across people with very diverse stories and backgrounds, even those who were involved in blood related incest sexual contact and childhood sexual abuse. We believe some of the people who received prayer for deliverance became demonized because of such an act. Some of them willingly got involved in incest as an adult, others were victimized by a family member or acquaintance at a young age.

Sadly, incestual sexual contact is much more common than one may realize. Just as the Bible addresses other grievous sexual sins such as bestiality and adultery, it also addresses incest (more on that later).

What is incest and child sexual abuse?

Incest “is human sexual activity between family members or close relatives. This typically includes sexual activity between people in consanguinity (blood relations), and sometimes those related by affinity (marriage or stepfamily), adoption, or lineage (source).” It is a problem that can be seen in all the social classes in developed and undeveloped societies. It is classified a problem as a silent health emergency.

Child sexual abuse, also called child molestation, “is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. Forms of child sexual abuse include engaging in sexual activities with a child (whether by asking or pressuring, or by other means)… (source)” It involves a pre-pubescent or powerless victim, and the perpetrator is abusing his or her authority with the goal of unilateral sexual pleasure.

Incest between an adult and a person under the age of consent is criminal and considered a form of child sexual abuse that has been shown to be one of the most extreme forms of childhood abuse; it often results in serious and long-term psychological trauma, especially in the case of parental incest. It’s truly an insidious form of sexual violence. Most children inherently trust their close family members, and when incest occurs, it can be profoundly confusing, shocking, and shameful for the survivor.

Incestual Sexual Contact/Sexual Abuse and Demonization

All sexual immorality can open doors to demonization, but especially incestual sexual contact, even when the victim is innocent. I’ve observed it many times being involved in deliverance ministry for many years that being a victim of sexual abuse alone can open doors for demonization. The perpetrators of such an evil act are most likely demonized. What else could compel a person to do such a wicked thing? Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy, and he often uses people to carry out his agenda. I believe the demons or unclean spirits from the perpetrator can transfer to the victim via the perverse act. If demons can transfer via the mere act of fornication (sex outside of marriage), and transfer via the laying on of hands in “prayer” if the person who is “praying” is demonized, is it farfetched to say spirits can transfer when incest is involved? With incest, especially when it is in the context of sexual abuse, the level of demonization seems to be worse. Indeed, some of the worse cases of demonization I have ever seen were of people who were involved in incest.

The following is one case of a devout Christian woman from the UK who I prayed deliverance for — one of the worse cases of demonization I’ve come across. There were several issues plaguing her body and life that she suspected that were demonic. When I began to pray for deliverance for her, the demons manifested through her in a dramatic fashion. The demon(s) actually spoke out of her mouth when asked by the authority and name of Jesus how it got inside of her. It revealed to me it came inside of her through incest perpetrated by her father. It was disturbing hearing such a thing. I asked the woman if she thought her dad would ever do such thing, and she disclosed to me that she suspected her dad sexually abused her at a very young age. Her siblings also suspected the same happened to them at a very young age.

But was it the incest alone that made her so demonized? Or was it the other sins her ancestors’ were involved in (her dad was involved in Freemasonry)? Was it her own sins? Or did the incest element make her demonization worse?

I have a Christian friend who was sexually abused by her own biological father. There was no penetrative sex, but oral sex was performed on her several times when she was child, over a span of several years. Her own father pressured and manipulated her. Any father who would do such an evil act to their own child is likely heavily demonized, and those demons may have transferred into her. We believe she got demonized from the incestual sexual contact. She didn’t realize she had demons until after she came to Christ and prayed for deliverance. She experienced the demons leaving her body.

I have another Christian friend — a sister in Christ — who was sexually abused by her older sister during her youth. She had demons cast out of her, but was her demonization due solely to the abuse?

The following case doesn’t involve childhood, but a willingly engaged in incest as a adult. I had prayed for deliverance for a young Filipina woman who was suffering from constant sleep paralysis attacks, which is likely a demonic attack. She divulged to me she was in a lesbian relationship with her adult cousin as an adult. Sure enough, she picked up demons as when I prayed for deliverance for her, she started to smell something burning. But was it because only she was involved in a homosexual relationship and fornication, or did the incestual element make it worse? Was it her other sins that opened the doors? That said, I have never seen a person get demonized from marrying their 1st cousins. In fact, the Bible never even prohibits such marriages, but it doesn’t mean it is okay biologically (more on that later).

I also remember praying for a young man who I prayed deliverance for said that he had sexual relations with his aunt. He was heavily demonized. But he also got involved in prostitutes, which can also open doors to demonization.

The (Demonic) Symptoms of Incest and Sexual Child Abuse

The effects of incest or sexual child abuse can be devastating for the victim. One source reads:

“Adults who as children were incestuously victimized by adults often suffer from low self-esteem, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and sexual dysfunction, and are at an extremely high risk of many mental disorders, including depression, anxiety disorders, phobic avoidance reactions, somatoform disorder, substance abuse, borderline personality disorder, and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.” Not to mention eating disorders.

According to the CDC, behavioral consequences include:

  • substance use/misuse, including opioid misuse
  • risky sexual behaviors, meaning sex with multiple partners or behaviors that could result in pregnancy or STIs
  • increased risk for perpetration of sexual violence
  • increased risk for suicide or suicide attempts

The scientific community doesn’t take into account the spiritual realm — they will likely deny or even acknowledge any demonic element. It could very well be in at least some cases, to some degree or another, the symptoms and behaviors can be attributed to demonization. What is behind a lot of mental disorders can be demons indwelt working to destroy the person. As mentioned before, the unclean spirits from the perpetrator can transfer to the victim. I’ve seen when the demons are cast out, a lot of their symptoms are alleviated, sometimes what pharmaceutical drugs failed to do.

As the CDC noted, periods of promiscuity or prostitution may result. Women who were involved in the sex industry are disproportionately victims of child sexual abuse. When praying for deliverance for victims, they usually had some sort of spirits of lust cast out.

There is another possible symptom from being a victim of incest which gives more credence it can be attributed to demonization: Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder). One news article reads “findings showed that across the world, almost all sufferers of DID had, during childhood, suffered from some form of abuse, be it physical, sexual or neglect.” They describe DID “as a complex form of post-traumatic stress and dissociation, which causes a discontinuity in one’s self of self.” Professor Warwick Middleton, a leader in research and treatment on the disorder who has been working in the field for decades, said the person can have “splitting off at different times into different identity states” and the “…individual might experience this as internal or external voices, which may argue and which may be associated with particular behaviors. Alternative handwritings. A whole spectrum of things.” I believe anyone who experiences voices is a telltale sign of demonization!

Indeed, in some cultures, DID may be identified as spiritual or demonic possession. I believe, in most cases, it is exactly that. Other Christian researchers have come to the same conclusion such as John Ankerberg and the late John Weldon.

They wrote:

“Although not all cases of multiple personality disorder (MPD) are spiritistic, some clearly are. This illustrates yet another ruse whereby spirits can operate invisibly under the guise of a neutral concept in order to secure their goals.

This area can be quite difficult to sort out. For example, on a recent news magazine television program they interviewed a woman with over 50 multiples. It clearly seemed like a genuine case of MPD. But even where spiritism is not a probable cause, it seems that at least one of the personalities often acts like an evil spirit or a demon. In this case, one of the personalities mutilated the woman’s body, carving out of the flesh on her arm the words “you must die” and carving an upside-down cross on her forehead. This could simply have been a form of pathological self-mutilation, but we are suspicious when one of the personalities seems to act like a demon, e.g., employing self-mutilation and satanic elements like upside-down crosses. Even if all the other multiples are in fact reflections of a legitimate psychodynamic, how do we know an evil spirit hasn’t joined in to mask its own activity?”(Source)

Interestingly, experiencing child sexual abuse can also increase a person’s risk for future victimization. For example, recent studies have found:

“Females exposed to child sexual abuse are at 2-13 times increased risk of sexual violence victimization in adulthood” and “People who experienced child sexual abuse are at twice the risk for non-sexual intimate partner violence” (Source).

Could it be the evil spirits transferred to the victim somehow leads a person to be involved in relationships with other perpetrators?

Healing and Deliverance in Jesus

It’s a sad reality that children can be victimized in such a way. The evil one’s mission is to defile and ultimately destroy people even from childhood, and a lot of times he uses humans as his vessels. All the more reason parents and should continuously cover your children with prayer.

What the devil has done, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is love, can undo. He can cleanse, restore, and redeem. I strongly suggest giving the Lord a chance. I propose if you have been a victim to receive prayer for deliverance, especially if you have any of the symptoms of demonization.

That said, woe unto them who has hurt a child and doesn’t repent.

Parents, continuously cover your children with prayer.

Biblical Prohibition Against Incestual Relationships

It should really go without saying that incest, even if consensual, is immoral. But for educational sake, let’s explore what scripture reads on the matter.

In the days when people commonly lived hundreds of years, marriage between parent and child was not permissible, as Genesis 2:24 implies: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” A man was to leave his mother, not marry her.

It wasn’t until the Mosaiac law was given, incestual relations or next of kin were strongly prohibited:

“6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the Lord.7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness” (Leviticus 18:6-7).

8 The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.9 The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.10 The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness” (Leviticus 18:8-10).

11 The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.12 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near kinswoman.13 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near kinswoman.14 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.15 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.16 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness.17 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness”(Leviticus 18:11-17).

“Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen” (Deuteronomy 27:20).

Incest was such a serious sin that those who committed it were to be put to death:

“And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:11).

“And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:12).

“And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you” (Leviticus 20:14).

19 And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister, nor of thy father’s sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity.20 And if a man shall lie with his uncle’s wife, he hath uncovered his uncle’s nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.21 And if a man shall take his brother’s wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless” (Leviticus 20:19-21).

“And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father’s daughter” (Ezekiel 22:11).

Herod Antipas married Herodias, his niece, and the wife of his brother Philip, who was still living. John the Baptist was imprisoned because of his condemnation of Herod for marrying his brother’s wife (Mark 6.17–18), which goes against Leviticus 18:16.

Under the New Covenant, incest is reaffirmed as sin. It was considered so bad that Paul mentioned that not even the gentiles would do such a thing, and that such a person should be delivered unto satan:

“It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus” (1 Corinthians 5:1).

Why do a lot of people find incestual relationships taboo as opposed to prior to the Mosiac law? Maybe because God has put into everyone’s heart that is sin (Romans 2:15).

How Did We Populate The Earth?

A painting by Guido Reni of Lot and his two daughters who laid with him after they got him drunk. It is believed Lot’s daughters assumed they were the last people on Earth after God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and living in a cave, and thus wanted to keep the human population from going extinct.

Who did Adam and Eve’s children procreate with? How did Noah’s family repopulate the Earth after the global flood? Didn’t the Patriarch Abraham marry his half-sister Sarah (Genesis 20:12)?

It was not until human population increased greatly on the earth that people no longer needed to intermarry among close blood relatives. In the early days of humanity, the human genetic code was not as corrupted to the extent that it is today. Therefore, marriages between close relatives carried little risk of genetic abnormalities in the children they produced. Once humanity expanded and, due to sin, the human genetic code grew more corrupt, God commanded against the marriage of close relatives. Is there any other evidence of this theory of a downward spiral of our genetic integrity? Yes! In early Bible times, humans lived upwards of 900 years – today they don’t. Perhaps this change has to do with our genetic load as well. Today we have more diseases than ever.

Dr. John Sanford (renowned plant geneticist and genetic engineering pioneer from Cornell University), said that the same gradual process of ‘running down’ is operating in the human gene pool:

“Called genetic entropy, it is driving humanity—and all higher organisms—to the point of extinction (barring divine intervention, of course). In fact, this process, which operates more rapidly in ‘higher’ organisms, means that the human species could only be several thousand years old; certainly not hundreds of thousands of years, or we would have already become extinct.

This topic is not widely known, but it’s very powerful support for biblical creation. Simply put, genetic entropy means that the information content in the genome (all of our genes) is progressively declining, due to the accumulation of mutations, generation after generation (Source).”

The Prevalence of Incest and Childhood Sexual Abuse

Aside from being extremely gross, this is undoubtedly demonic.
Ford (the son) who was adopted and tracked down his mother, formed a close bond. Things quickly turned sexual, with West (mom) boasting she had “mind-blowing sex” with her son. She claimed she began having “sexy dreams” about her biological son after they met. Ford gave up his wife to be with his own mom. They blame their attraction to genetics, but there is no hard science to support it. What spirit do you think is working behind them? (Source)

What is disturbing is the prevalence of incestual sexual contact, which testifies of the level of depravity of human kind can be.

According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, a large proportion of rape committed in the United States is perpetrated by a family member. Many studies found that stepfathers tend to be far more likely than biological fathers to engage in this form of incest. One study of adult women in San Francisco estimated that 17% of women were abused by stepfathers and 2% were abused by biological fathers. The most reliable research suggests that 1 in 20 families with a female child have histories of father-daughter child sexual abuse, whereas 1 in 7 blended families with a female child have experienced stepfather-stepdaughter child sexual abuse.

The National Center for Victims of Crime also reported “that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse;” and “Self-report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5-10% of adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident…”

Childhood sibling–sibling incest is considered to be widespread but rarely reported. Studies have suggested that sibling incest, particularly older brothers having sexual relations with younger siblings, is the most common form of incest, with some studies finding sibling incest occurring more frequently than other forms of incest. One study from New England has shown that roughly 10% of males and 15% of females had experienced some form of sexual contact with a brother or sister, with the most common form being fondling or touching of one another’s genitalia. The most commonly reported form of abusive sibling incest is abuse of a younger sibling by an older sibling.

Research indicates that 46% of children who are raped are victims of family members. One researcher stated that more than 70% of abusers are immediate family members or someone very close to the family. The majority of American rape victims (61%) are raped before the age of 18; furthermore, 29% of all rapes occurred when the victim was less than 11 years old. 11% of rape victims are raped by their fathers or stepfathers, and another 16% are raped by other relatives.

The prevelance of child sexual abuse is difficult to generalize, but research has estimated 10–15% of the general population as having at least one such sexual contact, with less than 2% involving intercourse or attempted intercourse. Among women, research has yielded estimates as high as 20%. Prevelance of parental child sexual abuse is difficult to assess due to secrecy and privacy; some estimates state that 20 million Americans have been victimized by parental incest as children.

Genetic Dangers

A common justification for prohibiting incestual relationships (and rightly so) is avoiding inbreeding: a collection of genetic disorders suffered by the children of parents with a close genetic relationship. Such children are at greater risk for congenital disorders, death, and developmental and physical disability.

Children of parent-child or sibling-sibling unions are at increased risk compared to cousin-cousin unions. Studies suggest that 20-36% of these children will die or have major disability due to the inbreeding. A study of 29 offspring resulting from brother-sister or father-daughter incest found that 20 had congenital abnormalities (Source).

Scientists say inbreeding is causing an unusually high number of genetic mutations to spread in Pakistan, leading to disabilities in children of consanguineous marriages. But still, this social custom persists. Such is the case also in Arab countries:

“Many Arab countries display some of the highest rates of consanguineous marriages in the world, and specifically first cousin marriages which may reach 25-30% of all marriages. In some countries like Qatar, Yemen, and UAE, consanguinity rates are increasing in the current generation…. Arab countries display some of the highest rates of consanguineous marriages in the world ranging around 20-50% of all marriages, and specifically favoring first cousin marriages with average rates of about 20-30%” (Source).

Although, nowhere in the Bible are first cousin marriages are prohibited, there are still genetic risks. The risk of birth defects in first-cousin marriages may be estimated to be 2-2.5 times the general population rate, mainly due to the expression of autosomal recessive disorders. Another estimate puts the offspring of first cousin unions at a 1.7-2.8% increased risk for congenital defects above the population background risk (Source).

“Abusers within Amish communities don’t often face justice in the criminal justice system, and have tried to avoid working with outside authorities.
Some Amish communities, per the report, appear to internally discipline those who have committed crimes by “shunning” them for six weeks.” Source Elders reportedly handed girls as young as 11 with a sex education pamphlet titled “To the Girl of Eleven” detailing how incest, according to some in the sect, is natural. Source Sadly, for incest survivors in general, “Incomprehension, shame, loyalty conflicts, fear of retaliation, and the misperception that the child is to blame for what took place make revelation difficult. In fact, only about 30% of victims, mostly older children and adolescents, reveal their situations. In 43%, the revelation is accidental.” Source

The Amish and Mennonite peoples have a high rate of intermarriage within their individual communities, with a resulting high incidence of inherited disorders. One report reads, “The Amish make up only about 10 percent of the population in Geagua County in Ohio, but they’re half of the special needs cases.” Some of the children have a mysterious crippling disease that has no name and no known cure. Many of these disorders, such as cartilage-hair hypoplasia, Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, and others, are rarely seen outside these communities. They are more likely to suffer from Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (Bubble Boy Disease), a rare genetic disease.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and
