The Bible is clear in Hebrews 9:27, “For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.“ There are no scriptures that indicate when humans are deceased, they can hang around on earth. Scriptures, however, says a person who is saved goes to heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8 reads ^“So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. ⁷ For we walk by faith, not by sight. ⁸ We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 

Philippians 1:23 reads, “For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.“

Ecclesiastes 3:20: “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.”

Those who are not saved go directly to hell. Luke 16:22-23 describes a rich man being tormented immediately after death. In Luke 16:24 he describes being tormented in hellfire: “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’”

The Bible condemns seeking after the dead:

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12

^“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31

So what are ghosts?

They are demons masquerading. The Bible reads satan can transform into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). If he can do that, he can certainly transform into a loved one who is deceased. If you are being haunted by a ghost or ghosts, try rebuking it in the name of Jesus Christ in faith and see what happens.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins, just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
