Ephesians 4:31-32

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

28 “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”

Mark 11:26

“But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Colossians 3:13

“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also [do] ye.”

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins, just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”

    1. I understand how it can be hard to forgive someone. I used to struggle with forgiving people for the hurt they caused me. That is why we need Jesus to help us soften are hearts.

And yes, people should have forgiven Hitler. People should forgive someone who murders or abuses a loved one. What benefit is there to anyone to continue to have hatred or bitterness towards an evil person? If the evil person doesn’t repent then hellfire awaits. But hellfire awaits you too if you don’t also repent because we all have done evil in God’s eyes.

So does that mean we should also forgive someone who murders someone you love and forces you to a live of pain and torment of losing someone dearly? How about forgiving someone who sexually abuse your children and you have to watch your children struggle with suicide ideation and drug abuse because of the abuse for the rest of their life? I feel like God sees everything in a narrow glass where He expects forgiveness because in his eyes forgiving is something so simple such as owning people money. Is he asking people to forgive Hitler? If God is the all knowing God who sees everything that’s going around the world doesn’t he know the pain that people experience? This world is filled with so much cruelty and I’m sorry that this reply sounds like I’m against you but I’m not. I just struggle with the concept that God doesn’t see the whole picture and is out of touch. And I know you might say that well Jesus died in a very painful way for you and still forgive you but I don’t see this as justifying to forgive people like Hitler.
